Difficult conversations and conflict are inevitable; if it is managed effectively conflict empowers people and creates transformative opportunities. Conflict, in and of itself, is not negative; but how it is handled by people frequently creates disruption and causes lost relationships, lost potential, and lost resources.

Do you need to have difficult conversations, or want to have conflicts resolved, with family members or others who you have a relationship with? These could involve
  • Divorcing a spouse or domestic partner and handling financial and children issues
  • Estate Planning for you, your new spouse and both of your children from previous relationships
  • Team members working on a project
  • Board members having a strategizing meeting
  • Estate or trust administration between family members
  • Guardianship of a parent, child, or other family member

Debra Synovec provides mediation, consulting and coaching to help individuals and groups cultivate resourceful and constructive ways to handle conflict, enabling them to meet their personal and group objectives using positive and constructive methods. Debra helps clients address inevitable issues that arise in family and business relationships by helping people:
  • Communicate better while learning new communication skills
  • Negotiate and learn negotiation skills
  • Build understanding
  • Identilfy needs
  • Create options

Debra has mediated divorce, family, work place and small business issues for over 20 years. Her approach is holistic because she looks at the whole system; her approach is empathetic and caring; and her method is analytical by combining her unique skills acquired as an attorney, CPA, mediator, and social worker. She assists clients in solving their issues in a constructive open manner so that the legal issues are agreed to in a manner that meets the clients’ needs, fosters hopes and heals.

Debra is a “conflict revolutionist” committed to advancing constructive conflict management that gets to the root causes. She understands the damage that is caused by protracted, acrimonious litigation and is devoted to helping people She views conflict as scalable and even though conflict may be difficult and painful she sees it as an opportunity for constructive change. Debra is devoted to changing how conflict is traditionally handled so that people are empowered and are able to create viable, sustainable solutions. Debra combines her unique skills and distinct background, including legal, financial analysis and relationship building skills, to work effectively with clients in a variety of settings in order to solve problems, strategize and transcend conflict to create endurable, constructive agreements.

Debra holds a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law, a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Minnesota, and a B.A. in Social Work from St. Cloud State College. Debra is an experienced professional mediator and is an Advanced Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution. Prior to beginning her practice in conflict resolution Debra was the Chief Financial Officer for a national real estate consulting firm and practiced as a CPA. Debra also has extensive experience working with small business clients and families as an attorney and as a CPA.

Debra’s clients and colleagues experience and express a sense of trust and confidence in her because of her ability to communicate, to understand their needs and to help them tailor plans and strategies to meet their needs and objectives.
