Breakfast Speakers

Each month at the WBE Breakfast we have an inspirational speaker. Thank you to all of our speakers!  Our speaker for January 2007 was:

Kathleen M. Neuzil, MD, MPH

Global Health: Passion, Persistence and Partnerships

Dr. Kathleen M. Neuzil, our January speaker, is PATH’s Senior Clinical Advisor for Immunization Solutions. She will speak at our January breakfast about the work of PATH, and her own inspiration to be a part of their deeply meaningful work in the area of global health.

PATH is an international, nonprofit organization that creates sustainable, culturally relevant solutions, enabling communities worldwide to break long-standing cycles of poor health. By collaborating with diverse public and private-sector partners, PATH helps provide appropriate health technologies and vital strategies that change the way people think and act.

PATH works in 18 countries, including Belgium, Cambodia, China, France, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nicaragua, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zambia, and the United States and impacts a wide array of emerging and persistent global health issues, including:

  • Health technologies
  • Maternal and child health
  • Reproductive health
  • Vaccines and immunization
  • Emerging and epidemic diseases

For the fourth year in a row, Fast Company, in partnership with the global consulting firm Monitor Group, has named PATH one of the top “social capitalists” that are changing the world. In the year 2005, PATH received the Human Rights Award, an honor bestowed by the Seattle chapter of the United Nations Association and the City of Seattle Commission for Human Civil Rights and was selected by Amazon.com as one of the ten most innovative nonprofits in the world.

Dr. Neuzil herself is deeply grateful that her own hard working middle class parents so valued education that they made providing a private school education for their children their highest priority. Though she was orphaned at age 14, she pursued, through sheer determination, the quality of education they so deeply wanted for her, and ultimately earned a Masters in Public Health from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and an MD from John Hopkins University. She has authored or co-authored more than 60 research papers and book chapters on topics related to infectious disease.

Dr. Kathleen Neuzil believes that passion, persistence and partnerships have been instrumental in PATH’s significant contributions to world health and to her on her personal journey. We are confident that her words will inspire each of us to contribute meaningfully in our own unique and valuable ways.

August Breakfast

Our August breakfast is an annual, invitation only special event dedicated to recognizing and celebrating our volunteers.  We will be back to our regular breakfast schedule on September 9th with Janis Avery, CEO of Treehouse, who will speak on the topic of: Challenge, Change and Creativity - How To Turn Life's Obstacles into Business Opportunities (or Opportunities for Growth). Online registration for our September event will begin on August 13th.   We hope you will join us then.
