Breakfast Speakers
Each month at the WBE Breakfast we have an inspirational speaker. Thank you to all of our speakers! Our speaker for Jul 2008 was:
Faith Ireland
Risk-taking vs. Recklessness in Business and Life
Faith Ireland made the decision to go to law school at a time when her very presence there was nothing short of “conspicuous,” as she puts it. As a child, watching the McCarthy investigations on TV sparked her passion for justice. The fact that a woman pursuing a law career was almost unheard of in those years did nothing to sway her resolve.
Just three years after graduation, Faith created what would become a thriving private practice. She was later appointed, and then elected, to Washington State’s Superior Court. She ran twice for a seat as Justice in the Washington State Supreme Court, unsuccessfully in 1984 and then coming in first on the ballot in 1998. After serving one term, Faith stepped down, making room in her life for other pursuits: starting a new business as a freelance in-house counsel, and continuing as a competitive power-lifter. Yes, you read correctly! Taking up the sport at the age of 57, Faith is probably one of few former State Supreme Court Justice’s that can lift 225 pounds from a squat position.
